Beyonce-“Girls (Who The Run This World)”

Beyonce has come back with “Girls (Who Run This World).”

The first single from her 4th album, which is to include production from sleigh bells, Diplo, Symbolic One, Frank Ocean, etc, heavily samples “Pon De Floor” by Major Lazer. Diplo produced this and sampled himself… an unusual occurrence but Diplo is that good and that crazy.

I’ve yet to decide how I feel about the song, but I do like it more than some of the other popstar songs released lately. “Girls” is directing Beyonce in a different direction musically while still keeping her lyrical themes constant. “Single Ladies” and “Diva” are both familiar in terms of content. It’s that military drum and sonic squiggles and urgency that breathe new life to this new Beyonce project.  The song isn’t as catchy or immediately satisfying as other songs of hers, but it is an adequate introduction to Beyonce’s newest project.
